With the advent of the Internet and high speed data connections, more and more computers are becoming infected with viruses, malware, spyware, rootkits and more. To help protect your data and your computer from these annoyances, there are some guidlines you should follow.

  1. Remember to always enabled your computer firewall. This stops outsiders from getting in.
  2. Always have antivirus install with the latest virus definitions. Most antivirus applications will periodically update themselves without your intervention.
  3. If running a Windows operating system, remember to keep your computer up-to-date with security fixes, patches and service packs.
  4. Never download files from websites that seem suspicious.
  5. Never open email file attachments from people you do not know.

If your computer does become infected you will immediately need to remove the threat by running a scan with your antivirus program. If your AV does not find anything or you can not run your AV application, please contact me and we I be more than happy to assist.
